After multiple discussions with a close friend, we came to the conclusion that it was time I retake control of my work online and invest a bit of time to create a place to host all of it under the VolcanLoup Games name. So, I took down the old Tumblr blog, and started looking into what’s the easiest, fastest way to get a website up and running in 2026.
Welcome Hugo & Neocities #
I wanted to be able to focus on creating art and sharing projects, not spend hours working on a website. The goal was also that I would own all the content and be able to move it anywhere at anytime easily. That’s when I stumbled uppon Static Site Generators, and Hugo was suggested to me. It fit perfectly:
- Open-Source
- Use Markdown to create the content, so I can reuse anywhere
- Fast and simple HTML output that can be hosted almost anywhere
- A good variety of themes available, so it looks decent
And, most of all, it is fun to use! I had a really great time building the site, and it was really quick to do so!
As for the hosting, Neocities seemed to be a great place that alligns with creativity and independance. It’s old-school, simple, and free. I like that!
Moving Forward #
The main intent is to share on VolcanLoup Games the portfolio of projects I work on, so there is one place to find everything I put out there.
However, I also want to use this space to share, through the blog, things that are useful to me while creating games, pixel art or graphic design in general. Making games is hard, really hard, but, the more you learn about it, the smoother it gets. I hope that by sharing tools, processes, tips, errors I made, etc. I can help others start creating their own graphics or improve their current workflows.
